Despite their cute name, love handles are the bane of many a dieter. Those side pouches around your waist that just don’t seem to go away, love handles can be got rid of with the right kinds of diet and exercise. Cut Out Sodium

Sodium not only raises your risk of heart disease but also causes water retention, making love handles seem bigger than they really are. Cut down on your salt intake, and definitely reduce the amount of processed foods you eat.

Cut Down on Alcohol

By limiting your alcohol intake you can decrease fat deposits. Alcohol, particularly beer, is notorious for contributing to stomach and central body fat. Drink Water

We know that you hear this all the time, but drinking enough water really is a key step for weight loss. Water will help reduce water retention. But it also acts as an appetite suppressant, and, most importantly, helps your body to metabolise stored fat. All of these things will help you get rid of those love handles. Do Crunches

Keeping in mind that spot reduction doesn’t work, you should still be doing exercises that target your abs. A solid muscle base around your abs and stomach region will help decrease the appearance of love handles. But you must do this in combination with proper diet and a regular exercise routine.

Exercise Your Back

This is something that many dieters forget to do. If you are working on strengthening your abs, you also need to strengthen your lower back to balance your core strength, and to reduce fat in the back region. Because love handles are positioned on your sides, you will need both stomach and back exercises.

Cut Calories

It’s simple: in order to lose weight you must eat less and exercise more. By cutting your daily calorie intake you will lose weight. And that weight will come from all over your body, including your love handles.  Now, cutting back on calories DOES NOT mean that you need to go hungry or that you have to drastically change you diet.  Make a couple of smart food choices each week and you’ll be surprised at how easily the fat falls off.  How do you make smart food choices, well for a start take all the annoying guess-work out of cooking and mealtime by following a done-for-you meal plan.   Just by eating some of the delicious meals in this plan, you’re guaranteed to drop body fat.

Your daily caloric intake is individual to you, so it’s impossible to say what you should be aiming for. Generally though, aim to eat a healthy, balanced diet, with plenty of fruits and veggies and lean proteins.

Cardio – but not what you think

This is the other half of the simple equation, eat less and exercise more. You need to burn calories so that your body doesn’t store them as fat, which means jumping getting that heart-rate raised up.  This doesn’t need to mean you have to spend hours on the treadmill though.

Don’t forget that every calorie you burn is one less calorie to be stored, so take the stairs, park at the far end of the parking lot, do whatever you can to burn a few more calories. And get yourself an exercise routine. The fitter you are, the more of that extra weight you lose, the smaller your love handles will be.

Lifting weights is not going to pump you up like a body builder. What it will do though is to prevent you losing muscle as you lose weight.
